A Lesson from…
By…a bird I saw this morning.
I was off to a client’s site where my partner and I have been for the past three days. Itching to get their website completed and move on to finishing my latest e-book. My target is to launch it before the year runs out.
I live in Lagos, Nigeria, a.k.a. Las Giddy where Giddy means Hustle or Struggle. As I was in traffic I took a look outside of the window as my driver manoeuvred his way among fellow driver-hustlers honking and trying his best not to let out a series of swear words.
To my amazement, I noticed what I normally would have ignored and spent quality time meditating on what I saw. It wasn’t anything out of the ordinary – just a lone bird flying several hundred metres above sea level. A thought suddenly popped up in my mind about what the bird would be thinking of It would probably be something along this lines:
“My, My! These crazy human beings are at it again. Here they go again this beautiful Friday morning running about with their metal boxes and making so much noise. I wonder if they ever take time to look up at all.
They are so self absorbed that all they think about is rushing to get their share of whatever it is that is about to finish that they always rush out to get. Don’t they just realize that there exists an abundance of everything they could ever need and so much more? Besides why don’t they just think on a higher level like I do? If only they do, they would realize that it is too crowded at the bottom while there is an abundance of vast space not too far from the ground!”
As we gained some ground I quickly switched back my attention to my driver and took a glimpse at his face.
“Such concentration”, I thought to myself.
I then decided to just see things a little bit from this bird whose “thoughts” I had imagined in my mind.
The truth of the matter is simple. We do not have to all do the same set of things at the same base level of thought.
There is so much room at the higher realms of thought. If only we would raise our level of thinking to that level. Could the reason why the few control most of the resources simply be that they decided to think on a higher plan, from a grander big-picture perspective?
Look for instance at the state of affairs in the global economy. Things have been so messed up lately and all we all have been trying to do is patch them up. Could this not be Nature trying to tell us that we need to create new ways of doing things, better models of running businesses and cleaner ways of producing the things that we need and make with such reckless abandon?
Economists have taught us or rather brainwashed us that resources are limited. NO they are NOT! Everything we could ever want has been given to us. Whether we SEE them is another thing though. Why does necessity have to be the mother of invention?
That ugly saying is the mother of our problems. We wait until there is a desperate need before we find a way to solve it. Majority of us do not think ahead anymore. We seem to think just enough. Maybe because we do not want to exhaust our thoughts after all resources are limited.
On a less sarcastic note, competition of the wrongly concluded “limited resources” as only led us into living a dog-eat-dog lifestyle. Rather than compete, we should raise our level of thinking to a higher realm and create. The richest men of all ages have been the ones who thought a few steps ahead of the pack – of what could be and said why not, decided to try and went on to make some much wealth from just thinking on a creative realm
In this realm of creation, not only are resources completely unlimited, there is no competition what so ever.
Think about raising your level of thinking will you?
