What Does Blogging Mean to You?
ByIs there really an exact definition of blogging? I really do not think so regardless of what Wikipedia defines it as.
Blogging has no exact definition. It means a lot of things to a lot of people just as we all have differently shaped faces. It is however imperative for you to ask yourself if you want to become a blogger – what the meaning of blogging is.
A VISION
If you suddenly wake up one morning and simply start out by chasing your dream of becoming a blogger without any vision and predefined mission to serve as guides, you will definitely not succeed. There will not be a way to measure how you are meeting your objectives because there was none to start with. You also will not target the appropriate niche market. So, to truly get the meaning of blogging, it will be a good start to know the common reasons why so many of us are bloggers.
A MEANS OF EXPRESSION
One of major reason is a need to express ourselves as humans – we have a need to be heard.
AN AVENUE FOR FUN
Another common reason is fun. The folks who only want blog for fun define blogging as their way of sharing – their personal lives as well as their pet’s and whatever may be happening that they are fascinated with.
QUICK BUCK MAKER
A lot of “bloggers” do so for monetary reasons – blogging is an income earner if you blog properly and have a huge followership.
Few bloggers even earn more than $30,000 monthly. This is definitely why bloggers for money continue yearly. This group define blogging as another way to earn money online. Most end up with a few dollars per month and then consolidate by flooding the blogosphere with hundreds of poor content blogs so their earnings can multiply across board. They do not care about content quality as long as many eyeballs see their numerous blogs and click on the ads on them.
AUTHORITY BLOGGERS
There are also the guys that blog with the vision of becoming authority bloggers. These guys want to establish credibility. They are majorly into particular niches because their knowledge of the niche is the main resource they will use to achieve their goal.
This is a great tactic to use as you can become known by doing so and also brand yourself as one of the best bloggers in the world.
A PLATFORM TO CONNECT
I have met a number of awesome people from all over the world through blogging – people I otherwise would not have met. I’m sure this is your case too. Blogging helps to build contacts, meet new peoples, and give birth to new business ventures – if you go out of your way to network with people. Fresh ideas and perspectives come your way when you network with many other bloggers. People who blog with this vision as a driving force see blogging as a means to create global online networks.
A BRIEF RECAP
Now you have a pretty good idea why people blog – a way to have fun; earn money; establish credibility and create networks. All these reasons give blogging so many meanings in so many ways. So when next you’re asked to define blogging, you can do so based on your personal definition.
WHAT ABOUT YOU?
So what’s your reason for blogging or wanting to blog? You will be wise to identify it before you launch out into blogging. If you want desire to be a full time blogger, you can definitely earn a lot of money if you do what brings in steady income but the most definite way is to earn from the value you add and to add value you must KNOW something and be willing to share it. In the blogosphere, FREE is the norm before EARN.
The internet has provided another alternative way of earn money and blogging gets more popular yearly, you will find a lot of bloggers online. This means competition with people to which the closest you will ever get is seeing their gravatar – and that’s if they even have one. With so many bloggers online creating such competition, you have to operate from the higher realm of creativity. In this realm, your competition becomes your customer or at the very worst your subscriber.
Blogging is all about one thing though discipline – and consistency and quality content and driving traffic and listening to what your readers say (a lot of things actually)
Also, you have to blog regularly because sporadic bloggers lose their entire readership online. If you want to become “problogger”, it will be wise to follow these things and learn more daily so that your blogs can always be in-demand.
WHAT IS THE MEANING OF BLOGGING?
So, what is the meaning of blogging? You alone can answer that, especially if you’re a blogger. All I know is that there is always room for “just another blog” – whether you will be successful is entirely up to you. If you are not yet a blogger, start learning to make blogs now and find good places online. Now that you know you can either do it for fun, money, credibility, or network building and a thousand other reasons.

Regardless of the reason, passion really needs to be there. Otherwise, the blog will simply be abandoned in a few short weeks.

Olesegun, enjoyed the article. I totally agree with a lot of your points. Blogging actually help me with creativity also, it has helped me to spawn business ideas. For example, I recently did an interview with a ceo as a blog post and it gave me an idea for separate blog that I can look into to see if there is a market for my idea.
I have so many of these ideas now, I just have to find the time to implement them now
Thanks

Hi Robert,
Thanks for visiting my blog.
I saw the interview headline on your blog yesterday but my internet speed was rather slow. I can’t wait to check it out again.
I guess you ‘d have to use the Pareto principle to prioritize

Yessir. I can’t agree more. Passion is the energy of life.
You only truly live if you fulfil your passions since you were born with them.
Thanks for the contribution Gabe.
