step1 blocks 16 Steps To Becoming More Effective1. Figure out what’s most important to you and let go of the rest if you cannot outsource them.
Use the Pareto principle. For instance, out of the ten things that you are to do, which top two will give 80% of the results? We shouldn’t take on everything that comes on our way.

2. Focus on the top 20% you have chosen earlier and they shouldn’t be more than 4.

3. Life is a school. Experience is the teacher. Know that you will goof along the line so be ready to forgive yourself after you do.

4. Learn progressive consistency using daily tasks. It is easier that way. Jump back on track at the next opportunity if you err somewhere.

5. Be flexible. Setting a routine is good, but realize that life is not perfect and you can still be consistent even if it doesn’t look like you expected it to look.

6. Create a routine. Nothing fancy, a set of steps you do in a specific order every day is okay. This will help you turn actions into habits subconsciously. Remind yourself in the beginning so that you can remember to complete tasks as part of your routine.

7. Be flexible and willing to adjust. Be willing to drop the things that have been proven not to work, just fill their space with more important things.

8. Never, ever give up.

9. Write down all the reasons you think you CAN’T do this, and then throw them away.

10. Change your mind. If some part of the business is doomed to fail, then let go of the cankerous branch.

11. Take life one it one step at a time. Don’t worry that you might mess up next week. Concentrate on being progressively consistent today. This will take you ahead of the game.

12. Eliminate as many distractions as you can.

14. Be crystal CLEAR and SPECIFIC on what you are trying to be consistent about. WITHOUT A VISION PEOPLE PERISH.

15. Reward yourself for being consistent for a certain period of time.

16. Break down your goals down into smaller manageable pieces. Do not bite more than you can chew. You’re more likely to be successful if the thought of adding the item to your day doesn’t completely overwhelm you.

Will you apply these steps?

I think you got the most important one first. Get rid of the stuff that’s not important. Sometimes that is so hard to do.

I struggle with the stuff that isn’t important, too – but I’m really trying to get over that now and make sure I’m always making sure that things are moving me forward. This is a great list, I also really like the idea of rewarding yourself, I think it’s important.

Hi Ruth,
I like the idea of rewarding myself and conversely, I punish myself when i deserve too just to maintain some balance :)

I also struggle with non important stuffs that seem urgent but do not count at the end of the day. In fact, i still did some today but i can say that i try to improve daily despite the regular stumbling.

Cheers

Being flexible is very important when you’re in business. Over the 20 years that I’ve been in business I have come across many changes. I could have bitched and complained about the changes and gone backwards or I could embrace them and adapt my business to grow with it. It wasn’t easy but being flexible and adapting was the way to go.

I had to learn that the hard way.

Now, i’m as flexible as can be.
