Broke-Ass Blogger or MSI Blogger – Which One Are You?
ByA broke-ass blogger?..um.. we all know what that is and we are all aspiring not to belong to that category. Those who are are working hard (and I hope smart) to get out.
Let’s focus on an MSI blogger. MSI is an acronym for Multiple Streams Of Income. So the meaning of who an MSI bloggers are is suddenly becomes clear. These guys are the online blogger-entrepreneurs and some are just Internet Marketers to the bone with no time to blog.
Seriously, full-time or part-time bloggers should not just be carried away by the euphoria of creating content, building relationships and driving traffic. If you achieve all that, then what next?
We should also focus on how to earn an amount online that will fund our dream lifestyles and give us the ability to help others. Most bloggers should develop into savvy businessowner/entrepreneurs.
While most top bloggers focus on a “pillar blog”, there are several niche sites that they own but do not publicize so much mainly because these sites are majorly for earning money online.
This means that the content might not be completely unique and Google rankings do not matter as well, some blogging legends like Seth Godin and Darren Rowse have authored several books have.
Others like Jeremy Schoemaker (Shoemoney) has been involved in several online businesses whose life cycles have been complete and have moved on to other things.
Shoemoney went from being a banker to an IT guy to a Phone Wallerpaper pimping business to becoming the publicity stunts-man for Google in their Adsense campaigns to importing Internet cables to starting something with the owners of text-link-ads to his current Affiliate Business.
Other A-list bloggers like Darren Rowse (again), Yaro Starak and David Risley are building business empires around their core competence i.e. full-time blogging.
Prior to this, they have all been involved in one business or the other. Darren worked three jobs and laboured manically before he became the success that he is today. Now, Darren is an avid photographer/camera authority, a Membership site owner and has a portfolio of profitable sites including digitalphotgraohyblog .
Yaro has evolved from selling magic cards to flipping websites, running forums and an editing business before fully becoming a blogger. Apart from his main site, he also runs blogmastermind program, membership site mastermind and becomeablogger with partner Gideon Shalwick. He is also starting a new social responsibility project to giveback.
David Risley had also owned a successful PC blog which is still an authority site today becoming a full-time blogger successful and stepping up into becoming a trainer with his BlogMastersClub which just launched a blog training program.
Allyn Hane of bloggerillustrated is another great example of bloggers earning good money online by offering valuable products for sale.
Recently, Allyn sold a website for $30, 000 and willingly shows how he does it on his site. It is a must see for any aspiring blogger.
Also worthy of mention is a great guy that I look up to – Ryan Lee. Ryan is not a blogger but makes loads of cash online. In a recent interview he gave, he talked about he earns multiples more than all the bloggers on the interviewer’s list of top bloggers earning online.
Ryan has got me thinking ever since. All he does is meet needs and makes millions in the process and he is not a noted blogger by any means.
Other big time money makers are Russell Brunson and Ryan Deiss
Internet gurus like Yanik Silver, Frank Kern, John Reese, Mike Filsaime and Willie Crawford all have multiple streams of income online.
Mike Filsaime also inspires me – he owns the online payment solutions provider – that s rivaling PayPal , an autoresponder/email management system, butterfly marketing and many other products online.
Yanik Silver does also with his internetlifestyle.com, Underground internet seminars, and his invitation-only maverick business adventures.
Joel Comm, Rich Schefren and John Carlton all have MSIs.
Lately, I have been working on how to create other avenues to earn money online – automating a process to sell valuable information to Nigerians and right now, it is at the beta-stage.
I am also a big fan of having a traditional business – real estate, a shopping mall or factory of some sort where the internet will just be mainly a platform for marketing tangible products or services and where I can employ people and contribute to GDP of my country.
While blogging is great and I absolutely love it, it is yet to fully pay the bills. It is wisdom to create other income streams by the side.
Besides, having a quality blog takes a lot of time – creating quality content, generating traffic that has to be substantial enough for you to monetize later and building genuine relationships with your readers.
In fact I have heard many A-listers say a couple of times that blogging takes time before it becomes a decent money earner. Isn’t this further confirmation that you need to look at other avenues to generate income from?
When NOW be the right time to create your own MSIs? Please let me know what you think!!
Cheers,
Olusegun

I have my main blog for fun, and for experience and to build relationships, but I am not making money off it. Instead, I have many streams of income including writing for others, creating and selling wesbites, and creating and keeping websites that will earn money over time. Ultimately I’d love to make full time money from my blog, but for now those multiple streams of income are very important.

Even though I am new to the blogger world, I plan on making money one day online. Maybe not millions and billions. Maybe just something to help get my new flat screen or to buy some high dollar toys for my children. I am completely ignorant to this right now but the more I read the more I believe I can do it. Keep the posts coming man, I love reading them!

These guys are great examples of what is possible but they don’t define the range of possibilities or what will work for you. The trick is finding out which things do work for you. Second is developing the skills that can take you to acheivement of your goals. The guys with the skills you need may not be working your area so you have to be open to everything.

Thanks for the linkage olusegun, much appreciated!
It is always good to learn from a large pool of bloggers/internet marketers and then take the pieces and put them together into your own system or philosophy.
You are following lots of good people from many different backgrounds and that will make you balanced in your approach which is a good thing.
Thank you again for the mention here,

Hello Ayo,
Thanks for appreciating it.
How are you doing? I’ve been trying to access your site since but the bandwidth here is somehow bad.

Hi Olusegun!
The common thread among all the names you listed in your article is that they all treat what they do as a business. I believe that if you are going to make money from blogging, you absolutely MUST treat the whole thing as a business.
There’s nothing wrong with blogging for fun, in fact we probably wouldn’t be doing it if it wasn’t fun. But if you want to make money you have to move your attitude away from “hobby” and into a business mindset.
I enjoyed your article, mate, and I’ve chucked you into my reader.
Kind regards,
Steve.

Hey,
MK Baba, wassup?
Yeah, I quit my Financial Institutions job last day of 2008 and it has been fun and challenging.
I hope to be able to earn more money using some traditional business tactics to sell online .

Hi Olusegun,
What a marvelous post. It’s full of resources for those of us who need to learn more, or just gain a little confidence. I was one of those who originally thought all I needed was a blog, and voila!, money would just fgall from the internet tree into my waiting hands. Now I know better because of wonderfully illumoinating sites like those you mentioned above. Hmmmm. What an interesting text editor. I can’t go back and fix my typos.

First things first, you might want to fix your blog theme to work seamlessly with Opera. It’s next to impossible to comment on your blog with Opera.
Anyway, I’ve also been looking at other ways of generating incomes on my blog but all the ideas I’ve got require 100% attention. That is I’d have to leave my day job or risk having angry customers when I can’t offer a wonderful customer support service due to being hampered by my day job.

Hey Dude,
Wassup?
Nice to have you here. I have noticed also and tried to fix it but I’m not sure if it is the download speed or just some browser config issues.
