BySome time ago I wrote a post on How Not To Sell Online. Today, I’d be giving you 30 bad ways to link building that will certainly destroy your brand. I not only promise but also guaranty that they will either get your blog banned/penalized or filtered from the four major search engines.
Via Directories
1. Submit your blog to 200 dime-a-dozen directories that send no traffic and sell off topic run-of-site links.
Via Forum Spam
2. List at least 15 Web blogs in your signature file.
3. Post ONLY when you can add links to your sites in the post area.
4. Sign up for profiles on forums you have decided never to comment on.
5. Ask questions about who provides the best [WIDGET]; Let the [WIDGET] be an item that you sell via your blog. Then use the same IP address to create two other forum accounts answering your own question and raving about how great your blog is.
6. Join 20 different forums and ask the same question on the 20 forums on the same day.
7. Post on outdated forum threads that to exclusively to link to your semi-related blog.
8. Post nothing but “Me too”, “Nice post”, “Hmm” and other one liners to build your post count. Combine this with a link-rich signature file.
Via Blog Spamming
9. Market your own blog hard on your first blog comment and add no valuable comments. Mention nothing except your recently post on the same subject on your blog and demand that everyone read it. Copy and paste this to dozens of blogs with this message.
10. Sign blog comments with spam-filled keywords instead of your real name.
11. Post comments that make blogs assume an automated bot hit their comment area.
12. Better yet, use automated bots to hit their comments. List at least 30 links in each post. Try to see if you can hit any servers hard enough to make them crash.
13. Send pings to everyone talking about a subject. In your aggregation post, state nothing of interest. Repeat what other people are commenting about.
14. Don’t link to any blog you ping and send them pings from posts that do not relate to them.
Via Rubbish Link Exchanges
15. Send out link exchange requests mentioning PageRank.
16. Don’t customize or use personal names but send link exchange emails which look like an automated bot sent them.
17. Send link exchange requests to Matt Cutts, Google, and Yahoo!.
18. Get links from nearly-hidden sections of websites listing hundreds or thousands of off topic blogs.
Via Spamming People Personally
19. Go to webmaster conferences and rave about how rich you are, and how your affiliates make millions doing nothing.
20. Don’t ask people what their name is, ask for their URL and as soon as you get it ask if they have linked to your site yet and if not, why not.
Via Persistence
20. Send 20 webmasters alerts to every post you make on your blog.
21. Then send them an email every single day asking for them to link to your website.
22. Send references to your site to the same webmasters from dozens of different email accounts (you smart dude).
23. If these do not get you a free link, offer them $0.50 for their time. Increase your offer by a 10 cents each day until they give in.
Via Getting Links by Being a Jerk
24. Obtain bad press by any means necessary. Bash Probloggers. Diss fellow bloggers as well.
25. Cut and paste content published by well known bloggers. Do not attribute the content to them. Aggregate many popular channels and just wait for them to start talking about you.
26. If any webmasters links to your site, sue them.
27. Send this tweet to your followers on twitter “Only fools will not link to (insert your URL)”
Now for some great tips; Here are 14 ways to get more traffic to your blog.
If you know of any other bad ways of building links do you know of ? Post them here.

I have nothing more to add because you covered this topic so thoroughly and made it a fun learning lesson. People try these things thinking they will get fast results, but all that happens is they annoy others and hurt their own reputation.

Hi Olusegun! I have to agree with you that these 27 bad ways link building will definitely destroy our brand. However, i don’t think that we will get banned from the search engine. This is because link building can be done naturally. And it does not sound logic. If this is the truth, then i can just easily remove my competitor from search engine by helping it with bad link building.
It has been long time i do not visit your blog. Do you still remember about the partnership on small myeloma cancer blog?
