There are endless make money online (MMO) courses available on the internet. There are just as many cock–and-bull advice from self-proclaimed”Internet Marketing gurus” that I won’t be surprised if you are experiencing “information analysis paralysis”.
Recently, I was overwhelmed with similar experience trying to build a profitable self-sustaining online business system that can be independent of me. So, I made up my mind to share with you my growing experience on ‘Building a Business System to Earn Money Online with Blogs’ in an easy, practicable way that anyone can read, understand and do.
Blog Basics
1. Start with a Niche within a Niche.
What’s a niche?
A ‘niche’ is defined as: “A special area of demand for a product or service”.
What is your niche?
Your niche should be an area where you have expertise and passion. Your expertise will soon distinguish you as an authority while your passion will keep you going before you start earning on the internet.
Some clues to your Niche:
What you are drives you crazy when it is not done well?
What do you enjoy so much that you can volunteer to do for free?
Assume, you would be paid $1 million regardless of what you do, what would you be involved with?
Everyone is passionate about something. Knowing what it is the beginning of blogging wisdom and of your blogging journey. Believe me; you don’t want to simply jump into blogging as a business without knowing what to focus on. If you are a car freak, Isn’t it foolishness to blog about pets? Passion and focus are the key ingredients that you need to help you last in the blogging game. Anything else falls behind them.
2. Pick the right domain name? How important it is?
Your choice of domain is just that – your choice. There are no rules binding you. The conventional rule is to use a keyword in your domain. For instance, if you write about cars, your choice of domain name should probably include keyword phrases such as “automobiles”, “salons” or “SUVs”.
Remember, the best domain names have long been taken so think of combining two or more keywords in your choice of name. When I want to look for a new domain name, I use a Go Daddy’s search tool which tells me if the domain is taken and then gives me options available. I currently register all my domain names with GoDaddy which the World’s Largest Registrar – GoDaddy.com and a famous service among most domain owners.
3. The Right webhost
After registering your domain name, it is yours. The next step is to buy hosting for your domain from a reliable hosting provider. The most reputable hosting provider in the industry in my opinion is - HostGator. They give you the hosting package right for your business need with outstanding customer support system at the most affordable price. For Nigerians though, paying with Credit Cards is a major issue if you can’t pay via PayPal.
4. Change your DNS (domain name server)
The next thing to do is to point your domain to your webhost - HostGator. The whole process is in point of fact quite simple and takes only a minute to do. To learn more in a step-by-step process, please refer to How to Change Your DNS to HostGator.
5. Set up your blog setup
Blog setup is as simple as A-B-C. Installing WordPress isn’t as difficult as what people make you think. A script called Fantastico makes setting up a blog very simple. You don’t need any technical knowledge. If you think installing WordPress is only for the technical savvy, see “How to Install Your Wordpress Blog using Fantastico”
6. Introduce yourself to the world with an “About Me” page
Being anonymous is one privilege that blogging affords and it is a fun part of blogging. But your readers ought to know who is talking to them and whom they will be talking to. In the impersonal world of blogging, introducing yourself briefly makes it more personal and improves your credibility as a blogger. You can reveal as much as you want but don’t hide behind the mask of your blog.
